Add to that the opportunity to create your own bespoke wedding and you have somewhere quite magical for your own original and totally personal wedding weekend. The quiet beauty of the surrounding countryside is a perfect backdrop for a wonderfully memorable celebration, it is like stepping off the planet for a weekend and sharing the experience with your families and friends. When you have chosen your own suppliers and planned everything just exactly how you want it to be... and there are no officials to interfere and no time schedules to be observed, you can be totally relaxed, stress free and enjoy your special weekend without the usual pressures of a conventional wedding venue. Having a wedding celebration over a whole weekend means that time isn't an issue and without that pressure everything happens smoothly and everyone is relaxed and happy. A very special weekend that everyone will remember forever.
When you hire Country Ways for your wedding, you have exclusive use of the whole venue for 3 nights (Friday to Monday) or 4 nights (Monday to Friday). The price chart on the website shows the prices for 3/4 night weddings at different times of the year and for different numbers of guests - this includes guests staying in our cottages as well as extra day or evening visitors, it does not include the cost of the ceremony. During the off peak season we can be more flexible with the number of nights and also offer special wedding packages including Kiss Me Quick weddings for up to 35 guests for one night from £900, including many extras.
On the day of arrival, the wedding couple, their families and close friends are welcome to arrive anytime after 10am to begin their preparations in the Corn Barn and grounds. Guests may arrive after 4pm when the cottages will be ready for them. On the day of departure the cottages should be vacated by 10am and the Corn Barn by midday. Everywhere should be left in a clean and tidy condition.
For the duration of your stay you have exclusive use of all 6 well equipped self-catering cottages for 3 nights or 4 nights. The cottages sleep a total of 27 in beds and up to 35 using the sofa beds, a few extra guests can be accommodated on fold out beds if necessary and cots can also be provided along with high-chairs. All bed linen and towels, electricity, heating and wifi are included and we provide tea-towels, dishcloths, washing up liquid, general cleaner, soap and a small selection of complimentary hot drinks plus the first 2 toilet rolls in your bathroom. Laundry facilities including use of irons and ironing boards and the machines are also available by donation. If the cottages are all occupied, additional guests can put up tents in the cottage gardens at a cost of £25 per tent for the weekend or £10 per night. We also have 2 electric hook ups in the farm for caravans and campervans are also welcome.
If you wish to hold the ceremony on site in our Corn Barn, you will need to make contact with the local vicar or the North Devon Registrars in Barnstaple and book them for your chosen date and time. They will make their own charges and we charge £250 for the ceremony to take place here - this contributes towards our annual wedding licence fee. If you are looking for an alternative ceremony, Handfasting or Blessing, I can also put you in touch with several Independent Celebrants who can create a very personal and meaningful ceremony with you.
Exclusive use of The Corn Barn is included, it can seat a maximum of 100 guests for the ceremony and up to 80 for a seated Reception, tables and chairs are provided. We can welcome up to 120 guests in total on site although additional undercover arrangements should be made in the form of a marquee, tipi, yurt etc. There are several suitable marquee lawns and there is a charge of £25 per night to have one on site. The use of the Corn Barn kitchen with cooker/fridges/freezer and dishwasher is included along with basic cookware and utensils although you will need to hire your own tableware and glasses. There is a music system in the kitchen for cd's with an ipod connection providing music through the speakers in the Barn and a small cloakroom in the building with one toilet and a baby changing table. Most guests staying in the cottages return to their own bathrooms for a quick freshen up, however it is recommended that for weddings of more than 60 guests additional toilet facilities are hired in. The extensive gardens and grounds are available for the guests to explore and they are also welcome to visit our petting farm of friendly animals and wander through our own private ancient woodland and stream - wellies usually recommended!
On the terrace of the Corn Barn is a small DIY bar with a fridge that can be set up to serve drinks. There are drink dispensers and Pimms jugs to hire or you may choose to offer bottles and cans. Local breweries can provide barrels of beer and cider or local pubs will set up a full paying bar with the appropriate licences and provide full bar facilities.
Live music or a disco can take place outside or under canvas till midnight or inside the Corn Barn until approx. 1.30 - 2am. I'm afraid we don't allow fireworks or chinese lanterns because of our animals and haybarn nearby.
Everything else is up to you... and this is where the fun really starts! You can choose your own style of catering, evening entertainment, photographer, flowers to suit your colour scheme, decorating of the barn, entertainment for the children ie. bouncy castle etc, and links for recommended local suppliers can be found in our own 'Bride's Guide'.brochure which will be given to you when you visit. We will also give you a brochure of items that you can hire from us, including a large range of rustic decorations: bunting, lanterns, milk churns, haybales and blankets, willow twig hearts, tealights etc. as well as fire pits, barbecues, garden games and a 6 x 3m marquee. If you decide to book the venue, a 25% deposit is due within 2 weeks of reserving the Wedding date with the final balance due 1 month before the wedding. If your wedding is booked more than 16 months in advance we will request an interim payment one year before your wedding date. On arrival we will also request a cash damage deposit, £150 for up to 60 guests or £250 for up to 120 guests, this is fully refundable and will be returned via Bank transfer 1 week after your wedding as long as there has been no significant damage or loss within the Corn Barn, grounds, cottages or farm.
Come and have a look! We are more than happy to show you inside The Corn Barn, around the immediate grounds and inside any cottages that are vacant at the time. You are welcome to see the animals too of course, as we are happy to run a 'farm experience' for your guests to help feed and pet the animals during your stay. If you are coming some distance we offer you the chance to stay here for just £50 a night to get a feel for the venue and this offer remains in place right up until the wedding date, giving couples the chance to come back often, to do some onsite planning, meet suppliers on site or just enjoy the tranquillity and beauty of Country Ways.
